I heard some time ago, that one of Olympic's propellers was on some farm land in Fife, Scotland or actually in a barn on a farm in Fife, anyone else heard anything similar? or know anything of their where abouts?

I seem to recall seeing a photo of this in the original Ballard Titanic book with him being photographed with a propeller in a Welsh scrap yard.

I can't find the book but worth looking into if you have a copy

Thanks John,

No I have not but will try to get around to it!

I own some small parts of RMS Olympic as well though nothing quite like your collection.

I do have one of her Running Lights though that was originally in the Marquis Of Granby Hotel following the sale of the fittings.

AS this is just gathering dust at the moment I was thinking of giving it on long term loan to Southampton Maritime Museum, so long as it was secure of course.

Would you have any other ideas about who might be interested in displaying it? There are some nice photos with it including one with Captain Smith.

Best regards

Mike

Hi, the propellor in the photo of Bob Ballard with it in a welsh scrap yard is one recovered from the wreck of the Lusitania

Short of spending a long time looking at Google earth I am not sure how you'd locate this. It would be amazing if one of her propellors still existedf although very surprising given how much valuable metal they contain!

Is the company that scrapped her keel in Scotland still around? I wonder if they would have any records since presumably the rudder and propellors were stuill attached when the hulk was towed there in 1937.

Happy hunting, it won't fitin the back of your car, that's for sure!
