RMS Olympic was,
of course, the sister ship to the ill-fated
Titanic. We are proud of our extensive
collection of Olympic artefacts, which provide
an insight into what it was like onboard the
doomed “Ship of Dreams” (a Hollywood label that
adds a romantic theme to what was really an
‘immigrant vessel’; albeit a superb example of
Edwardian splendour and engineering). Likewise,
many other collectors have wonderful Olympic
items and we hope to encourage them to join us
also, share knowledge, photographs and
information.
Of course, we have
been heavily involved with SS Nomadic, built
alongside Titanic at Harland & Wolff,
specifically to carry 1st & 2nd
class passengers out to the giant liners when
they called into Cherbourg, France. We exhibited
exclusively onboard Nomadic in Belfast during
2007 and look forward to assisting with the
restoration in any way we can. We have
successfully found and recovered a large
quantity of her interior, with most of the hard
work being done by Phillippe Delaunoy; probably
one of the foremost experts on the vessel. We
will continue to search for more artefacts and
encourage you to help also.
History is an
important part of education and we also offer
lecture services to groups, such as the World
Ship Society and of course, school groups,
colleges & universities.
To summarise,
White Star Memories is THE website and meeting
place for you, if you’re interested in ships,
transport, history and anything to do with the
once-mighty, White Star Line.
Stay a while and
enjoy............... |
